PROFESSIONALLY SIGNIFICANT PROPERTIES OF THE LEADERS: TENDENCIES TO THE TRANSFORMATION

The article is devoted to the analysis of a tendency to transformation of structure of the modern leader and necessary conditions of priority competence formation of the future leader in the course of training. According to the author it is necessary to pay special attention to formation of the optimum base, giving the chance for the subsequent development and perfection of necessary competences of the modern effective leader.

Статья посвящена анализу тенденции к трансформации структуры личности современного руководителя и необходимых условий формирования приоритетных компетентностей будущего руководителя в процессе обучения. По мнению автора необходимо обратить особое внимание на формирование оптимальной базы, дающей возможность последующего развития и совершенствования необходимых компетенций современного эффективного руководителя.

Psychologisation became a prominent feature of modern management. Psychologisation means the comprehensive account of the human factors, the management influence on overall performance of the organization, and dependence of viability of the organization on the management efficiency.
The crisis of 2008, which has begun as economic, has turned into a social problem. Inability of the existing managerial system to respond to occurring variations of dynamic world operatively and effectively became obvious. While the main resource of any activity is people thousands have remained not protected socially. These people feel helpless and unnecessary. Nowadays qualitatively new approach to management has to take place.  Such approach should focus on a person. On the other hand activity of the leader is becoming more and more intensive and diverse. The aspiration to increase the overall performance of the organization entails indispensability of perfection and transformation as methods of work of the modern managers, their personal development, progress of their psychological characteristics, and mastering of new competences.
Prior management functions are following:

  • foresight,
  • planning,
  • constructing society,
  • coordinating,
  • control,
  • stimulation,
  • coaching.

For this purpose the head should possess many qualities, such as:

  • ability to effectively manage himself and his time;
  • capacity to clarify the personal values;
  • capacity to neatly define targets and tasks for their achievement;
  • capacity of constant growth and self-development;
  • the non-standard approach to the decision of problems, speed, creativity, flexibility of reaction and decision-making;
  • psychological competence,
  • skills to influence the employees and the counterparts;
  • ability and desire to train subordinates;
  • ability to work in a group;
  • ability to create collective and a harmonious atmosphere in it;
  • capacity to take full advantage of possibilities of employees by means of proper arrangement and fair sanctions;
  • active listening express;
  • ability to clearly expound the ideas.

The content of managerial capabilities is in detail exposed in the article of M.Vievskaya and L.Krasovskaya [10, p.7]. These are skills in development and forming strategies, acceptance and realization of administrative decisions, management of innovative processes, organization of interpersonal communications and management of group dynamics, organization of interpersonal communications and management of organizational communications.
Special place in environment of professionally meaningful properties of personality of a leader occupies a capacity for self-government. Under a self-management we understand people’s ability to manage their activity, behavior, emotional state, and also ability to timely correct the behavior, lifestyle and even character in the case of necessity. The American psychologist Kate Keenan considers that having manage to control yourself you succeed in all undertaking. [2, p.69] Kate Keenan gives concrete recommendations for self-management: "everything will be success, if…

  • 1. to produce the own approach to solution of different problems;
  • 2. to understand, what type of activity fits exactly to you;
  • 3. to comprehend the process of treatment of information at a decision-making process;
  • 4. to consider all possible variants before accepting the final decision;
  • 5. to take into account own preferences while choosing profession;
  • 6. to make a correct choice". [2, p.28]

In the research of opinions regarding the appearance of  a modern leader (December, 2010) conducted among students of technical institutions the students were offered to define the hierarchy of characteristics of the leader which should provide effective relationship with subordinates, the authority, colleagues, value orientation, choice of methods, and style of guidance. As a result the students selected the following qualities of modern successful leader (a hierarchy is made in order to decrease the meaningfulness of every description).

If in researches of previous years [3] priority in the image of successful leader were the leader qualities, under which students understood active position, initiative, energy, today predominating in the hierarchy of personality, professional qualities of successful leader become: high intellectual level, strong will and good organization abilities, respect to the people, competence in the chosen professional area. In our opinion the trend to transformation of personal characteristics hierarchy of an effective manager is caused by several reasons. In society there is a change of image of successful leader, businessman from the greedy "plunderer" of period of primitive accumulation of capital without moral "taboos" to the professional with the high level of education, effective communicator, understanding the value of social base for the successful functioning of organization.
We are far from the idea about radical change of image of modern business and its leaders. However the fact that the executive branch of leadership of the most successful companies in the world is represented by specialists in such science fields as information technologies, nanotechnology etc., leads to understanding of crucial values of high professional competence in the chosen area, high level development of intellect, creative capabilities, scientific potential of both leader and personnel for effective function of an organization. From our standpoint it helps forming the high motivation to obtain a qualitative mastering the profession by future specialists.
Waking up interest to the psychological problems of management in society, personality's development, career growth, promotes actuality of effective and highly-qualitative study of psychological disciplines, work of university's psychological services, courses of increase of psychological culture, debatable forms of communications, scientific student's works in the area of psychology of management and business communication management.
Recommendation.
The young age of leaders of modern organizations becomes more usual phenomenon. Therefore the role of their professional training and teaching increases. The task of educational establishments today is preparation of skilled, creative, competitive and confident managers, leaders which follow high moral values, base their decisions on scientifically grounded methods of management, and possess high motivation for personal growth.

  • 1. Taking into account the high rating of intellectual development it is necessary in the hierarchy of professional characteristics of modern leader, in our opinion, to turn the special attention on forming of competencies of structuring and increasing the knowledge, self-perfection and self-development. A "drawback" of modern education is the general plagiarism. Overcoming this problem is a difficult task, as it will be necessary to break the stereotypes of thought, as the phenomenon has already firmly planted root in consciousness of a student. One of the methods for solving this problem, in our opinion, is an application of information technologies (teaching programs on educational simulators, not limited to control of knowledge but also process of their mastering software). Thus the problem of individualization of teaching, personality-oriented approach to the teaching, and differentiation of educational tasks depending on the degree of preparation of student will be solved. It is instrumental in optimization of time and increase of educational motivation of a student.
  • 2. The next problem is a lack of ability to determine goals. One of the major tasks of a leader is the ability to identify goals. In our opinion, formations of self-examination skills while learning psychology of management, training of personality growth and self-perfection, which may be offered by a psychology department of an educational institution are instrumental in developing qualities for goal identification.
  • 3. One of the significant problems is the inability to state and express ideas clearly. A large fraction of modern students is afraid to address public, the majority does not have the experience in even one significant oral presentation. Regular participation in discussions, business games, conferences and other forms of interactive employment help to break a psychological barrier of fear for an audience.
  • 4. Under-evaluation of the importance of psychology as major component of vital installation is a disturbing symptom. Skills and desire to understand people and the reasons for their acts, skills to adjust the emotional condition to develop the creative potential are the competence of the head.
  • Conclusions.

Professional training of modern managers should respond flexibly to variation of an economic and social situation, and consider scientifically proved forecasts for the future.
Intensity of variations occurring in a society entails an indispensability of constant updating of knowledge and skills, development of new approaches of management. Thus the concept of long-term continuous vocational training and personal development ("life-long learning") becomes necessary in vocational training of a manager. Therefore results of modern scientific researches should become an integral part of training courses and disciplines in vocational training of managers and retraining of leaders of the organizations.
In our opinion, the concept of psychological maintenance of professional work and preparation of the modern head is necessary. It should, in our opinion, both more profound study of psychology of management, conflictology, psychology of dialogue, psychologies of the person, psychological problems of create and practical implementation of knowledge in "business game", professional trainings, trainings  to increase a cultural level of the future executive (psychological, ecological, legal, health cultures ), discussions, organizations of round tables and other interactive forms of study, using methods of " brain storm ", case-study, a method of projects. Thus, the substantial aspect of vocational training of the future managers is mastering key competence which would include both knowledge, skills, motivation and ways of personal development and progress of special capacities of the future manager.
Requirements to leader, a manager are extremely diverse. The tendency to their specification and ordering are being amplified. The attention to progress of thinking of the managers, skills to resolve and anticipate conflicts, their communicative competence increase. And this tendency is observed both in society and in concept of students of the future heads. Unfortunately, less meaningful in student's concept are such properties and capacities of the head as ability to listen, skill to adjust the emotional condition, to create a command of adherents and creative employees. Therefore creation of the educational environment meeting the above requirements is, in our opinion, a priority in the direction of transformation of the concept of domestic management and an image of the modern effective head.
