Interviews Svetlana MUCOMEL

Svetlana MUCOMEL
Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy
Cherkassky Institute of fire safety named after Heroes of Chernobyl, Ukraine

What is your area of scientific interest?

My main interest is investigating the acmeological foundations of self-realization of future rescuers, formation of their spiritual values in conditions of the educational-upbringing environment. I am the follower of the humanistic pedagogy.

What do you consider to be your highest achievement it the field of science?

Practical application of the original methods in forming the spiritual values of future rescuers of Ukraine; being granted the status of the Corresponding member of the Ukrainian Academy of Acmeology, “Social Pedagogy” department; acquisition of unique knowledge in own professional field; words of gratitude, rewards (spoken and written ones, as well as those of tangible and intangible nature) and awards (Order for Merits) from the supervisors.

What is your purpose in scientific work?

I will answer using A.P. Chekhov’s words: “Science is the most important, the most magnificent and necessary thing in human life”.

It is the process of scientific activity itself, the search, and the most important - significant efforts in cognitive activity. In other words - being satisfied with the very process of the intellectual load and the euphoria brought by final results of my work. Especially if these results are demanded.

Another purpose of my professional activity is the formation of the system of knowledge related to psychology. The system necessary for adequate understanding of the world and the modern scientific picture of the world, mastering the scientific style of thinking, comprehension of methods of activity and value-related orientations of students - future specialists of the civil protection service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

What is your opinion about the development of the world science in the nearest future?

It is always difficult to make predictions. In the 60s of the previous century we were expecting that with the beginning of the new century the science would change drastically, and the robots would replace human beings in the factories and in many aspects of everyday life. Our expectations became true in some points. But in other points we have remained in those 60s. This is more related to a little bit more conservative sciences like the pedagogy. Because there are absolute truths that cannot be changed in any way. Transforming, adapting to certain problems the researcher is working on - yes, this is possible and necessary. Introducing different innovative technologies in education and upbringing - this is the main task for the pedagogical science today on my opinion. Transforming and adapting the values according to which the society is developing.

What scientific problems require the greatest attention in order to ensure intensive development of your scientific branch?

One of the main goals of the modern times is the ascension of the society to the new stage in the spiritual-moral plane. It is because the current stage of the evolution first of all demands the society to show spiritual growth. Spiritual growth of the society is in turn the basis for the development of science and technology, culture and arts, as well as economy. It is natural that the evolutionary development of the society requires the constant growth of the moral culture. But today in conditions of the world economic crisis the problem of moral development and the level of morality, being the basis of spirituality, is more than topical.

What measures should be undertaken in order to improve the quality of scientific studies in your country?

Decent material support of scientific workers, confidence in future, motivation and support of scientific works.

In your opinion, can objective understanding of the surrounding reality include scientific and religious principles? Huge variety of manifestations of the surrounding world requires deep and complex comprehension of fundamental ideas about matter, space and time, about good and evil, law and justice, nature of human behavior in the society. The development of science in general and the normal course of life of the society require the regulation of behavior and actions of people first of all through moral norms and values.

Complex interrelations between the society, the state, scientists and theologians must be based not only on comprehension of basically fundamental and applied problems of science, but also on achievements of humanitarian sciences promoting the development and improvement of such interrelations, as well as absolute truths given to us by the religion. That is why for me these are not alternatives. They can exist together. In my spiritual values formation method I use a technique of pastoral training based on the religious values and norms of life.

What do you consider to be significant differences between the scientific fields in the developed countries of Europe and America, former socialist states and the developing countries?

First of all it is about the level of financing and areas of the research. And everything else is the same everywhere in accordance with the laws of science and nature, apart from the style of thinking. After all, we are all Homo sapiens.

What would you like to wish to organizers and participants of the GISAP project?

First of all I’d like to express my gratitude to organizers for the opportunity to present the results of my achievements to the scientific community and to dive into materials and areas of scientific research of scientists from different countries.

I find the system of positive comments to scientific publications very impressive. It allows detecting points catching the eye of specialists working in different scientific areas.

To the project participants I would like to wish more informal communications. For us a project is like a big family. You know the circle of scientific interests of participants, their temperament and the way of presenting their thoughts. Every time you are looking forward to reading comments and receiving expert marks. It is some kind of an exam revealing new things you have learned during the period between conferences, the results you have received, the level of attractiveness and topicality of these results to the scientific world. It is a very interesting project with own traditions and ethical norms.

And from me personally I would like to wish organizers and participants of the GISAP project to stay creatively strong, lucky and inspired in their work. May this year be successful for all of us! Especial gratitude to managers of the project.
